Basic operation of TIG argon arc welding

Dec 01, 2021

Tungsten Inert Gas, abbreviated TIG. The literal translation is tungsten inert gas welding(TIG WELDING), generally called non-melting electrode gas shielded welding.

Inert gas shielded arc welding(TIG WELDING) using pure tungsten or activated tungsten (thorium tungsten, cerium tungsten, zirconium tungsten, lanthanum tungsten) as a non-melting electrode, is of high quality but slower.

TIG WELDING refers to non-melting electrode gas shielded welding. It is an arc welding method that uses external gas as a protective medium.

Its advantages are good visibility of the arc and molten pool and convenient operation; no slag or very little slag, no need for post-welding Clean the slag. However, special wind-proof measures must be taken when working outdoors.

TIG WELDING itself belongs to the open arc operation, which can observe the shape and flow of the molten pool very well, which is much better than electrode arc welding.

Controlling the stability of the hand during welding is the biggest key to avoid shaking and burning the dock to cause tungsten in the molten pool. The control method can be supported by the forefinger holding the welding torch on the welded pipe or plate.

The extension length of the tungsten electrode can be selected according to the depth of the breach, generally 3-5mm.

The TIG wire transport method can be selected according to the size of the groove. When the groove angle is small, the welding wire can be placed in the middle of the bath and fed continuously. When the groove is large, you can use the point feed wire on both sides (to be quite skilled to avoid touching the dock), and the welding torch can be moved left and right to make the edges fused well.

Regarding the full scale pattern on the surface, according to the scoring standard of the test competition, the TIG WELDING reinforcement is generally 0~2MM, and the surface is smooth without undercuts, pores, cracks, and no fusion.
