Introduction to submerged arc welding

In China, the welding dose is fluctuating around 50,000 tons, of which 70% is about smelting flux and the rest is non-melting flux. European and American industrial developed countries mainly use non-melting fluxes, which are about 80% and 90%. However, there are still submerged arc welding wire and flux smelting flux production and sales. The long-lasting productivity of smelting flux is related to some inherent characteristics. In recent years, a new welding method for steel bars has emerged in China, namely vertical steel bar arc-electroslag pressure welding. Compared with the previous steel bar manual arc welding method, it can save more than 15% of steel, greatly improve productivity, and reduce the cost of welding materials. It has a tendency to replace the latter and is increasingly used. The method mainly uses a smelting flux, which functions as a dimensional arc, an electroslag heating, a metal solidification phantom, and the like. At present, about one-fifth of China's smelting flux is used for the welding of vertical steel bars.

China's manganese ore resources are relatively scarce, especially for manganese ore with high grade, low phosphorus content and low iron content suitable for the production of smelting flux. Manganese ore veins are only found in Guangxi, Yunnan, Hunan and other provinces. After years of mining, manganese ore products that meet the requirements for the production of flux are becoming increasingly tense. In order to replace the high-manganese slag-based flux, the development and promotion of medium-manganese and low-manganese fluxes has become an urgent task for objective needs. With the expansion of the production supply of appropriate manganese wire, medium manganese and low manganese slag fluxes should have a broad market.
