Popular types of welding processes

Apr 23, 2023

Those are four most welding procedures:

1. Gas welding:
Use oxyacetylene or other gas flames to heat the base metal and filler metal to achieve welding purposes. The flame temperature is around 3000掳C. Suitable for thinner workpieces, small-diameter pipes, non-ferrous metal cast iron, and brazing.
2. Manual arc welding:
It is a manual welding method that uses an arc as a heat source to melt the electrode and the base metal to form a weld. The arc temperature is about 6000-8000 掳C. It is suitable for welding ferrous metals and some non-ferrous metals, and has a wide range of applications, especially for short and irregular welds.
3. Submerged arc welding:
(Automatic, semi-braking) The arc burns under the flux area, and the granular flux is used as the covering layer of the metal molten pool to isolate the air so that it cannot enter the molten pool. The welding wire is continuously fed into the arc area by the wire feeding mechanism, and the welding direction and moving speed of the arc are completed manually or mechanically.
It is suitable for welding straight welds and regular welds of carbon steel, low alloy steel, stainless steel, copper and other medium and thick plate materials.
4. Gas electric welding:
(Gas Shielded Welding) Arc welding in which a shielding gas is used to shield the weld zone. The shielding gas acts as a protective layer for the molten metal pool to isolate the air. The gases used include inert gas, reducing gas, and oxidizing gas, which are suitable for welding non-ferrous metals such as carbon steel, alloy steel, copper, aluminum and their alloys. Oxidizing gases are suitable for alloys of carbon steel and alloy steel.
